Hey Chicagoians.

Have you noticed how once summer starts emerging the lovefest of Chicago is plastered everywhere? I swear, every day there is a new “Best of Chicago”/”Why I love Chicago” list. Now, don’t get me wrong — I am going ga-ga over this city, too, and especially now. Chicago is absolutely, fantastically lovely and fun in the summertime (THERE’S SO MUCH TO DO!). But, where is the love for it in the wintertime?

My sister and I went to the Randolph Street Market Sunday morning. There were lots of cool items, making me wish I had a house/apt to furnish. Made a note to come back when I move out of my dad’s.

After the market and lunch at Publican Quality Meats (yum!) I went to the beach with friends. After sitting in the blazing sun, unable to rest my feet in the sand because it was scalding hot, we headed to the pool instead. A much better decision.

I have a feeling today is going to be a rough one. Stay sane out there.

Weekend to-do list:

  • mani
  • all the drinks with friends
  • beachtime
  • babysit for a family i haven’t seen in 2 years (the baby speaks now!)
  • Randolph Street Market
  • BBQs
Lunchtime.
After devouring this I now wish it was nap time.

Wait. It’s not Friday?

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who feels like today is Friday. Maybe it’s the weather? Maybe it’s anticipating a long weekend? All I know, is that I wish I was outside soaking in the sun and drinking a margartia. So, thank you UCYN for this lovely portrait of the leader of the free world. It was necessary.

Weekend recap

Beautiful weather in Chicago combined with suburbanites staying out of the city due to NATO made for a wonderful weekend. The armageddon-like NATO fears were overkill, in my opinion.

Friday night: Dinner with mom, little brother, and little brother’s gf at Blackbird. We tried to get into Avec and thought due to NATO we wouldn’t have much of a wait, but we were wrong. A hot restaurant is a hot restaurant no matter the weekend.

Saturday: Such a lovely day spent outside. Started out with 8:30am yoga in the butterfly haven at the nature museum with friends. It was our first time doing that, and while it was beautiful I was distracted by the butterflies and was sliding all over my mat due to me always being a sweaty mess and the periodic spray of water throughout. From there, said friends and I went to the Green City Market where we enjoyed the beautiful weather, breakfast paninis, and berry smoothies. We had two visitors in our group of five who had never been to Chicago. So, me being the only Chi-town native, we made our way downtown and I gave them a tour of Millenium, which ended in fro-yo at the amazing Walgreens on State. (If you haven’t tried their fro-yo I recommend it. You pay for the size of your cup, not the weight, so pile on those toppings!)

Saturday night: Mom had a BBQ per little brother’s request. She made a spread! Ribs, coleslaw, veggies, and the best part, massive ice cream sandwiches dipped in chocolate. Got into some shenanigans with new friends at Pourhouse, and then a few bars down for some late-late night silliness.

Sunday morning: Napped. All. Day.

This weekend made me so happy to be home and so excited for summertime in Chicago.

Was out past 3am but up before 9am. Is this what being an adult is like?

I just want to hear his story.

I saw this news story!

It’s a penguin who lives with a family in Japan. He takes his backpack for a walk every day to the market where a lady gives him a fish. Then he waddles home and hangs out in his little penguin shower.

I’m not lying when I say I cried tears of joy through the whole thing.

Thank you for this.
